Cannot start jBilling webpage

Brand new installation of jBilling Community 3.3.1 and Java SE 1.8.0_45. under Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit

Unable to connect to http://localhost:8080/jbilling or http://localhost:8080/jbilling/signup.
I get the typical:
HTTP Status 404 -
type Status report
message
description The requested resource () is not available.
Apache Tomcat/6.0.32

However, it connects ok to http://localhost:8080/ and I get successfully to $CATALINA_HOME/webapps/ROOT/index.html

I may be missing something obvious. The Tomcat startup.bat gives a couple of SEVERE errors (mainly the LISTENER):

Do I specifically need to create a database or it comes with the install?

    Thank you so much.
    I realise now I kind of wasted 3+ days trying to figure out what the problem was, researching in Internet and rechecking every corner of my system.
    It was simply that.

    I uninstalled Java 8, installed java 6u45 and ammended the environment variables to pint to the right paths.
    And startup.bat run with no issue and I only had to refresh the browser that was even previously open showing an error.

    I can start now the jBilling web ui.
    However, when I try to access Trend, for instance, it lets me select only company "-", and admin/123qwe is not good for the selected company ("-", since I cannot chose anything else or type anything in the dropdown box.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Do I need to do something special to start the Trend database?

    Do you mean that I cannot use Trend at all?

    Or that I cannot use it without signing up first?
    Because if it is so, do I sign up as myself or as admin (since this user already exists)?

    I do not see how any new user is linked to Trend.

    Sorry, these are teething problems...
